About Steady Hands

"Hi, I am Moya! Founder of Steady Hands. I created Steady Hands while experiencing the challenges of supporting a loved one through serious illness. My goal is to provide practical journals, planners, and resources that help patients and caregivers stay organized and feel supported."

Our Story

Our family's cancer journey began in 2022 when our 11-year-old son was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). What started as unexplained fevers and abnormal blood work quickly became a life-changing diagnosis. We also learned that he carried the Philadelphia chromosome, a genetic mutation that placed him in a high-risk category.

Like many families facing a serious illness, we were suddenly thrust into a world of hospital visits, treatment plans, medical terminology, and constant uncertainty. We were fortunate to have access to excellent medical care close to home, but nothing could fully prepare us for the emotional, physical, and mental weight that would follow.

One memory that has stayed with me is our first visit to the oncology clinic. While sitting in the waiting room, my son watched a nurse interact with another child. I saw a caring nurse who loved her job. My son saw something different. He quietly said, "That child is very sick." When I asked why, he replied, "Because he's spent a lot of time with that nurse."

At the time, neither of us knew that he would soon form similar bonds with the nurses who would help care for him throughout his treatment.

Over the next two and a half years, he endured intensive chemotherapy and responded well. Just one month before completing treatment, he developed a severe brain infection that became a life-threatening medical crisis. He spent weeks in the hospital and later attended inpatient rehabilitation, where he relearned skills many of us take for granted, including walking and speaking.

Despite every obstacle, he persevered.

By the summer of 2025, we celebrated one year cancer-free and looked forward to a future filled with normal teenage experiences. Then, in February 2026, we received devastating news: his leukemia had relapsed.

The second journey has been different from the first. While some aspects felt familiar, nothing could lessen the heartbreak of hearing that the cancer had returned. Recently, he underwent a stem cell transplant, and I had the privilege of serving as his donor. His recovery has been challenging, but he continues to show remarkable strength and resilience.

Throughout this experience, I came to understand not only the medical complexity of serious illness, but also the emotional and mental burden carried by both patients and caregivers. Caregivers often become an essential part of the care team, balancing information, decisions, advocacy, and emotional resilience while trying to hold everything together. Patients, too, carry a profound emotional load as they navigate fear, fatigue, and uncertainty while still trying to have a voice in their own care.

I began creating journals and planners as a way to bring structure to the overwhelming flow of information, emotions, and decisions. What started as a personal tool became a safe space to process, track symptoms, organize medical details, and support advocacy during appointments where every detail matters.

Today, my mission is to create resources that support the real, everyday needs of patients and caregivers. Tools that help families stay organized, communicate clearly, and advocate effectively for the care their loved ones need. Most importantly, these journals are designed to give both patients and caregivers a place to safely unload what can often feel overwhelming.

While our story is still being written, one thing remains certain: we will continue to face each challenge with hope, resilience, and deep gratitude for the healthcare professionals, family, and friends who walk alongside us.

Most of all, we are inspired every day by our son, whose courage continues to remind us what true strength looks like.
